NRL Magic Round Innovation Partnership

The NRL Magic Round Tech Sprint offers an exciting opportunity for Queensland-based businesses to revolutionise the world of sport and major events. With up to $25,000 in funding for eight successful businesses, this program provides the chance to collaborate directly with NRL subject matter experts to refine and adapt groundbreaking technologies.

Who is this opportunity for?

This program is tailored for Queensland-based businesses that already have a minimum viable product or beyond. Whether you’re in sport technology or a different field, this initiative invites businesses to pivot and customise their solutions to meet the unique challenges of the NRL and its clubs.

Program Objectives

Participants will address key innovation priorities for the NRL, including:

  • Strengthening appeal and engagement for new audiences.
  • Engaging Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) fans.
  • Enhancing in-stadium experiences.
  • Empowering volunteers and administrators to improve participation.
  • Making statistics more accessible and engaging for fans.
  • Elevating the at-home viewing experience.
  • Advancing athlete performance excellence and promoting long-term career health.

What’s involved?

Delivered by the Australian Sports Technology Network (ASTN), the program features:

  • A 10-week sprint with five core 1-hour workshops.
  • Weekly meetings with NRL experts to tailor innovations to real-world needs.
  • A platform to pilot and test solutions directly with the NRL.

What’s in it for you?

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Funding: $25,000 (excluding GST) to accelerate their technology.
  • Proof of Concept: Hands-on experience piloting solutions with the NRL.
  • Showcase Opportunity: Present innovations at the 2025 NRL Magic Round Tech Showcase.
  • Expert Support: Guidance from ASTN and a one-year membership to their services.

Now, with a three-year Innovation Partnership, the NRL and Advance Queensland are looking for the next wave of pioneers to tackle pressing industry challenges.
