The Indigenous Australian Datathon

1 November - 3 November, 2024

The 2024 Indigenous Australian Datathon is a unique event that will bring together people from across Australia to address community challenges using technology and data. 

This exciting event will take place from Friday evening, November 1st, to Sunday afternoon, November 3rd, at the Ideas Lab on the Nguma-bada Campus of James Cook University in Cairns.

The purpose of this event is to explore solutions to solve real-world community challenges in Australia and to share and educate participants and partners on traditional and digital technologies.

Event information:

  • 1 November 2024 – 5.30pm Event Kick-off on Friday evening with a dinner and networking event for all participants
  • 2 November 2024 - Workshop day (9 to 5pm). Participants group up into teams and discuss a community challenge with traditional owners, rangers, First Nations, IT professionals and students, working together to come up with a solution using data sets provided and technology tools
  • 3 November 2024 - Presenting solution (9 to 3pm). Each team presents their challenge and the solution they've worked hard to workshop. Everyone comes together to discuss their learnings

The event is free to attend! Meals will be provided.

Eligibility for Travel Subsidies

To encourage broad participation, travel subsidies are available to Indigenous attendees, especially those from remote and regional areas, as well as to promising start-up businesses. Successful applicants (Traditional Owners and Start-ups) will receive financial support covering travel, accommodation, meals, and related expenses.
