Moreton Bay Business Excellence and Innovation Awards Winners Announced

Business owners, employees and community leaders came together to celebrate their achievements at the 2022 Moreton Bay Business Excellence and Innovation Awards on Friday night.

About 480 people attended the event at the Eatons Hill Hotel Grand Ballroom during which the winners of 15 categories and Business of the Year were announced.

There were 68 finalists and the winners were decided by a panel of 44 judges from a mix of public and private sector organisations from across South East Queensland.

The 2022 Moreton Bay Business and Innovation Awards were presented by Moreton Bay Regional Council and delivered by Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT).

Sesame Lane Care and Kindergarten, which has 14 centres across the Moreton Bay Region and is based at Kippa-Ring, was named Business of the Year.

The business, which has been delivering quality child care and education for more than 33 years, was also a joint winner of the Moreton Daily Award for Customer Service Excellence category with North Lakes and Surrounds Electrical.

This occurred due a tie in the scoring and is a first in the history of the awards.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery told the audience the event was a great opportunity to celebrate the region’s passionate and thriving business community.

|“That’s why we’re all here tonight, to honour the almost 29,500 businesses in the region. You are the real superstars of our region and this evening is about you. Thank you for giving us the energy to reach our bigger, bolder and brighter goals,” Mayor Flannery said.|

“Recent experience has taught us that innovation alone is not enough. It also requires grit, determination and even blind optimism in the face of seemingly impossible odds. So, tonight we celebrate not only success for those who are taking home a trophy but … surviving the COVID era.”

Mayor Flannery also paid tribute to Matt McCracken OAM, who passed away earlier this year.

“He was such a passionate advocate for disability services throughout the region, including being a judge for our accessibility and inclusion award category,” he said.

Mr McCracken’s family attended the event, during which the inaugural Award for Accessibility and Inclusiveness Excellence was presented to Succeed Healthcare Solutions.

A night of firsts

In another first for the awards, Solar Bollard Lighting’s Mike Areni was the first inductee in the Hall of Fame following years of achievements on the national and international stage.

“He’s the number one user of the hashtag #teammoretonbay. Since launching our Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS) in 2021, Mike has been a proud supporter and advocate of the REDS and has helped spread the word #teammoretonbay far and wide across his social media posts,” Mayor Flannery said.

“He’s even developed a great video showcasing the region for his international buyers. We hear so often that people love living in our region, but we also need people to share their love of doing business in our region and from our region, like Mike. We need more people to tell their story like Mike.

“If you’re proud, show it. Tell the world who we are and what we stand for and what we want to be known for … be like Mike.”

Mayor Flannery told the audience Council is committed to their economic development and prosperity.

“It was no accident that our Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS) was the first new strategy that our council adopted on its establishment. Our commitment to you, your success and the region’s prosperity continues to be our top priority.”
